Red backgrounds makes the colour richer and are generally better to work with.
Block in the big shapes.
Shape is everything.
Work quick don't dwell on areas that you think aren't as good, come back to them later.
Start with the darker colours then work back in with the lighter ones.
Use long brush strokes.
You can never go wrong with using your fingers to paint.
It's very important to keep your colours clean.
Ideally have two palettes; one for colours and the other for mixing.
Use multiple brushes.
Don't just use one shade of colour use as many as you can.
Associate the shapes in the painting with shape you're familiar with, that way you'll be able to paint them better.
Correct as you go.
To much layering can dull down the painting.
Most importantly - "Don't fuss to much".
